Federation of Coconut Farmers and Farmworkers Associations (FECOFFWA)
On January 28, 2000, in Gumaca, Quezon, PRRM enabled the formation of NIUGAN to build the movement for coco levy recovery to rehabilitate the coconut industry. Its 3,000 members in key coconut producing provinces participate in organizing coconut industry development councils at the provincial and municipal levels to unite all sectors concerned about the welfare and future of the coconut industry. NIUGAN members practice crop diversification and integrated farming technologies to increase farmers’ income and ensure food security at the household level. NIUGAN’s leaders have been selected and appointed as representatives of the small coconut farmer-worker sector in the National Anti-Poverty Commission and as directors in the Philippine Coconut Authority and the Coconut Industry Investment-Oil Mills Group. |
