PRRM signs partnership project with GLMI-Japan

PRRM signed a partnership agreement with Global Links Management Institute (GLMI), a Japanese development NGO, to jointly implement a project covering 500 families in 8 upland barangays in the 4 municipalities of Kayapa, Dupax del Sur, Sante Fe and Kasibu in Nueva Viscaya. The signing was held last 17 January 2008 at the PRRM Board Room with PRRM President Ding Navarro and GLMI officials led by Representative Director Keiko Nishino.

Titled "Vizcaya Green Partnership", the project aims to promote participatory forest management in the critical watershed areas of the province of Nueva Vizcaya. Unsustainable agricultural practice like "kaingin" by poor upland farmers has led to environmental degradation of the upland and watershed ecosystem. Introducing upland sustainale agriculture and prudent resource use will reduce negative impact on the environment and rehabilitate it. The proposed project will establish four (4) 8-hectare model farms for local farmers to learn and test such sustainable agricultural practices. Local farmer-educators will also be trained to disseminate these technologies to other farmers. Another component of the project is environment education for both adults and children.

The project officially started
