Hon. Jesse M. Robredo

Mayor, Naga City

Mayor Robredo of Naga City is among the country’s most esteemed civil servants, having received the prized Ramon Magsaysay Award for Governance in 2001. He returned to his post as the Mayor of Naga City in June 2001 after a short hiatus. His first term extended from 1988-1999, during which time he transformed Naga City into what it is today. During his two-year break, he went to Harvard University where he received his Master in Public Administration (MPA) degree.

The innovative style of governance introduced by Mayor Robredo in the City of Naga could be attributed to his business background. He graduated from the De La Salle University with a double degree in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he got his first job at San Miguel Corporation where he held several positions over a six-year period. While working, he also studied at the University of the Philippines where he earned his Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree. It is therefore no surprise that his style of governance can be likened to that of a corporate executive.

When he leaves his mayor’s hat behind, Mayor Robredo plans to work for an NGO or help enrich the minds of the Filipino youth.
