Rice self-sufficiency is worth aiming for

PRRM will hold a Rice Policy Forum on 03 June 2011, Friday, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm, at the PRRM Building. Through this forum, we offer a platform for engaging the government, particularly the Department of Agriculture, on issues concerning rice self-sufficiency consistent with sustainable agriculture and the ways of achieving it. We believe rice self-sufficiency is worth aiming for, and the DA needs all the help to attain it. But first, we need to have a common understanding of what it requires: our reference baseline, timelines, strategies, participation of different sectors, especially farmers’ organizations.

The forum will include a presentation by Prof. Teodoro C. Mendoza of the University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB), Crop Science Cluster (CSC) on a review of the estimates of rice per capita consumption and its implication to the rice self-sufficiency program of PNoy administration.
